Keeping It Real
What We Are About
Razor Aquatics is a coach-owned, private team that takes competitive swimming seriously! This is not recreation. This is preparation for excellence. We believe in challenging all of our athletes and getting the best out of them. It is important that anyone looking to join our program share the same mindset and commitment to excellence.
Expectation Management
Excellence on a youth sports team requires cooperation. The coaching staff is responsible for creating an effective training and development plan. But the athletes and parents are responsible for executing the plan. Talent also plays a role in how far an athlete goes.
Our aim is to develop high performing athletes and our team has produced quite a few over the years. But if you’re looking to have a future D1 swimmer or Olympian while only getting them to practice a couple of days per week, please readjust your expectations because you are heading toward disappointment. No matter how great a coach is, he/she can’t coach an athlete that isn’t at practice and will struggle to coach an athlete that isn’t coachable.
But when you have competent coaching, a coachable athlete, and supportive parents, good things tend to happen. When you add some talent to that mix, you might see magic.
1 Month Evaluation Period
After an initial interview with the parent and child, there is a one-month trial period for new swimmers. During that month, the swimmer will be assessed on a number of different factors. Their attendance will be looked at. Their effort level during training will be assessed. Their attitudes and responses to challenges will be taken into account. Their listening skills will be observed. Their athletic ability will also be observed.
Children between the ages of 4 and 10 do not need prior swimming skills to join our team. The only exception is to that is between the months of November and March. During those months, children between the ages of 4 and 10 will need to be able to pass a deep water test to join.
Children over the age of 10 will need prior competitive swimming experience to pass their swim assessment.
